Pravasi Bharathi Day celebrated in Trivandrum

7th Pravasi Bharathi Day was celebrated
in Trivandrum, organised by Pravasi Bharathi News Bulletin from 9th to 11th January, 2009. The inaugural function was conducted on 9th January, 2009 at Gandhi Park, Trivandrum, which was inaugurated by Opposition Leader Sri. Oommen Chandy. Veteran Freedom fighter and Gandhian Sri.K.E.Mamman lighted the Lamp in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue. DCC president V.S.Sivakumar, Muslim League District Secretary Sri.Abbas Set, BJP District President Sri.K.Sivan Kutty, Sri.Kayikkara Babu, Dubai based businessman Sri.Noushad Punnathala, Adv.Y.A.Rahim ans several dignitaries were present on the occasion. Famous music composer Bombay Kalam recited a Patriotic song. The Valedictory function was held on 11th January, 2009 at Mascot Hotel, Trivandrum. Hon.Food and Civil supplies minister Sri.Divakaran inaugurated the function and distributed awards to the NRIs and other dignitaries. Sri.V.Surendran Pillai MLA, Sri.V.Jayaprakash Deputy Mayor, Tvm Corporation, RSP National General secretary Prof.J.Chandrachudan, Former Air india chairman, V.Thulasidas IAS were also present at the function. Prominent among the award winners are Mata Amritananda Mayi, G.Karthikeyan MLA, Sri.K.M.Mathew, Chief Editor Malayala Manorama, Dr.K.Radhakrishnan, Director VSSC, Bishop Mathew Mar Arackal of Kanjirappally Diocese, Varghese Moolan (Saudi Arabia), K.P.Sasidharan(Dubai), George Kakkanatt (USA), Ripple Hamza (Georgia), Nooh Khan (Saudi Arabia), Sabu Kurian(London),Tom George Kolath(USA), Mr.N.Jahangir(MD, NEST), Dr.Marthanda Pillai(Chairman, Ananthapuri Hospital), Dr.Riji G.Nair, (MD, Consumer Fed), Unnikrishna Kurup(MD, First Flight) P.V.Gangadharan (Director,Mthrubhumi). Prominent personalities who were honoured at the function are H.A.Mustafa, Manager, Air India, Dr.Yogiram Surugi (Well known astrologer), Deputy Commissioner of Police Sri.S.Somanatha Pillai, Kuriathy Shaji, Rafi, Bombay Kamal etc. The function was well attended by several guests from abroad and India. Kadakkal Ramesh welcomed the guests and S.Badusha expressed Vote of Thanks.
